BlokBuild featured on Grand Designs

In 2019, we were approached by Jonathan Green, founder and director of BlokBuild, to collaborate on a Bothy superstructure design that adapted BlokBuild's OSB cassette technology.

Based in Hull, BlokBuild is a pioneering collective with a mission to make our built environment more innovative and sustainable through digital manufacturing technologies. Their digitally driven construction system is formed of high-performance, insulated structural timber cassettes made from high grade OSB.

Many of our bothies are now built using BlokBuild's innovative cassette system; the same system that was recently showcased on Channel 4's Grand Designs: The Streets in which Jonathan and his team pushed the boundaries of their technology by building a three-storey house - their largest cassette structure to date.

Provided as a flat-pack ‘kit of parts’, BlokBuild's cassettes allow us to install our Bothies on almost any site. The modular cassettes are lightweight, making them perfect for less accessible locations in back gardens or up hillsides, where they can be carried or transported to site by an off-road vehicle and assembled by hand. The system is extremely quick to construct which helps us to reduce on-site construction time, risk of weather disruption and impact on the landscape.
