About

Bothy Stores is the trading arm of Scottish arts charity Bothy Project, which builds and maintains a network of bespoke off-grid artist residency spaces in Scotland. Every Bothy purchased from Bothy Stores helps to fund Bothy Project’s mission to provide creative residencies for practitioners in visual arts, crafts, design, music, literature and performance, as well as thinkers, researchers and people local to each bothy.

Bothy Stores’ original Artist Bothy was developed by the project’s founders, artist Bobby Niven and architect Iain MacLeod, in response to demand for a multipurpose self-contained cabin that can be located anywhere.

Modelled on the Bothy Project’s popular Inshriach Bothy, the Artist Bothy is a pioneering piece of low-impact architecture designed to enhance the experience of spending time in nature all year round. The smaller Craft Bothy and larger Studio Bothy are evolutions of this original concept. All of our Bothies are built using sustainable, innovative materials and streamlined processes, resulting in simple, modern buildings that will last several lifetimes.

Bothy Stores is supported by Scottish Enterprise and Social Investment Scotland. The development of the Artist Bothy was supported by Susanna Beaumont.
